Curly Locks Fundraiser - 2007

... as of June 15, 2007
... as of Nov 22, 2007

Dear Friends of Mercy,

Our Executive Director Tim Fogle has decided not to cut his hair until the Mercy Center raises $87,000.00 for our Annual Fund. The Curly Locks Fundraiser will continue until the Friends of the Mercy Center raise $87,000.00 or until Tim’s hair has grown the full 10 inches in length. If we reach our goal before Tim’s hair reaches 10 inches, he has agreed to let his hair grow up to the 10 inches required for a donation to be made to “Locks of Love”. We estimate it will take Tim about one year before he has grown his hair at least 10 inches long. Tim’s last hair cut was Dec 15, 2006 so it is well on the way to being a conversation piece.

Most of you know that Tim has thick, dark brown and naturally curly hair. So, if anything, he will look like he just walked out of the 70’s. The Mercy Center staff believes that Tim will provide some favorite one-liners and lots of teasing about his new persona! We think there will be plenty of “smiles” and “oh my” about his hair. Tim has never let his hair get very long because it is too much to manage.

Locks of Love will get a donation of hair from Tim and we hope the Friends of Mercy will help us achieve our fundraising goal. Can you help us? Please send your donation and email address to us (see contact page for address) and the Mercy Center will keep you informed with current photos and notify you for the hair cutting ceremony.

What is Locks of Love?
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

Sincerely,
Rev. William J. Jarema

As of Dec 23 2007, the Mercy Center The Locks-of-Love Fund raiser has brought in over $27,350. This has been our most successful fund-raiser and we will continue until  Tim’s hair is the 10 inches required for Locks-of-Love, his hair is just about 8 inches long. He estimates in March 2008 it may be the 10 inches and he will then have his hair cut and donated to their cause. Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
